Pilates Healthy Back Class

Torbay Physiotherapy Practice launches its exciting NEW Healthy Back Class

The Torbay Physiotherapy Practice has launched an exciting new Pilates Healthy Back class, designed and delivered by a Chartered Physiotherapist. The class focuses primarily on strengthening the back and core, and improving flexibility. It is unique in that it combines Pilates, gym ball rehab as well as the use of exercise resistance bands, and has the options of beginner, intermediate and advanced moves to cater for all abilities, in a safe and fun environment.

“The obvious need for a physio led spinal rehab class for the local population inspired me to set this class up. My experience in studying and working across three different continents over the past 20 years has provided me with various tools to put together a class that I am confident will help prevent the attendees from experiencing recurrent episodes of back pain. The recent NICE guidelines published in 2016, advocates the importance of a structured back rehab class in order to effectively treat back pain, so how can we ignore this?” stated Avisha Ramaloo, the owner of the practice.

“In fact”, continued Avisha, “I’ve always been interested in spinal rehabilitation, having specialised very early on in my career by working in a spinal rehabilitation unit in South Africa. When I moved to the UK in 2000, I completed my first Pilates course, and over the past few years have completed my advanced Pilates for Runners courses as well as my Pilates equipment courses. Alongside this I’ve attended gym ball courses specifically aimed at core and back strengthening, and set up a healthy back class for an NHS trust in Somerset in 2003; I’ve taken all this knowledge and skills and combined them into one highly effective Healthy Back class.”

The Torbay Physiotherapy Practice is a company devoted to empowering and enabling people to take control of their back pain, and the Healthy Back class is designed to help those who have lost confidence in their backs, but also those engaging in high levels of sporting activity who don’t manage to fit in adequate core conditioning and flexibility work into their training regime. The introduction of partner or assisted stretches into this class will feel like having your own individual one to one physio session, but at a fraction of the cost!
